Where you freeze
Exposure-first breakdown: what each biome costs you, and what it pays.
- Frozen Tundra official
Open, wind-scoured flatland — the most exposure-heavy biome.
- Glacier reported
Vertical ice terrain — traversal and falls are the problem.
- Ice Forest reported
Dense cover — the safest place to shelter, the worst place to see danger coming.
- Frozen City official
Buried ruins — the highest-value salvage and the highest risk.
What keeps you warm
Described by mechanic, not by invented stat lines.
- Cold-Weather Clothing official
Layering is the first survival decision, not a cosmetic one.
- Survival Tools official
Tools gate progression: you repair before you can go deeper.
- Survival Weapons official
Combat is a consequence of scarcity, not the point of the game.
What actually kills you
Each system page lists what is known and what is still unmeasured.
- Cold & Frostbite official
The cold is the antagonist. It is alive, it is ever-present, and it scales with exposure.
- Warmth & Shelter official
Warmth is the currency. Shelters are the banks.
- Hunger & Exhaustion official
Food and stamina decide how far you can push before the cold does.
- Exploration-Gated Progression official
You do not level up. You unlock territory.
- Base Building official
A network of shelters, not one mega-base.
What the frozen world actually looks like
Trailers and screenshots from the official press assets — not concept art. The rest of this site's artwork is clearly-labelled concept work.

Most Permafrost sites launching before 9 October are built from the same source: the Steam store page and the dev blog. They read well and they are all equally wrong about anything numeric, because nobody outside the studio has measured the build yet.
This site takes the opposite position. Every claim is tagged official or reported, and anything that cannot be traced is written out as an explicit unmeasured list on each page. That list is the useful part: it tells you exactly which questions the demo and the launch build will answer.
Data version 2026.09.24, last reviewed 24 September 2026. Changes are logged on the changelog.
- 9 October 2026 officialEarly Access launch — 12:00 UTC
Early Access opens on Steam, GOG.com and the Epic Games Store. Every value on this site is scheduled for re-measurement against the launch build; pages marked "unmeasured" become measurable at this point.
- 28 September 2026 officialStory trailer — how Earth became a white hell
Eleven days before Early Access, SpaceRocket Games and Toplitz released a story trailer covering the shattering of the moon, the collapse of civilisation and the search for a long-lost friend named Icarus. It is the clearest official statement of the premise to date.
- September 2026 (ongoing) officialWeekly "Signal" dev-blog series
The studio has been publishing a numbered dev-blog series through September, covering the opening sequence, the Horizon hub, faction conflict and the dog companion. Read the primary posts on the Steam news hub rather than second-hand summaries.
Permafrost, answered briefly
When does Permafrost release? +
Early Access opens on 9 October 2026 at 12:00 UTC on Steam, GOG.com and the Epic Games Store. The date was moved from 21 August 2026 by the publisher.
Is Permafrost co-op? +
Yes. It supports solo play or online co-op for up to four players. The developer describes it as symbiotic co-op: the world is not made easier, you simply do not face the cold alone.
What are the PC system requirements for Permafrost? +
Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 350, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB or RX 590 8GB, DirectX 12, 30 GB storage. Recommended: Intel Core i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3070 Ti 8GB or RX 6750 XT 12GB.
Is there a Permafrost wiki? +
Yes. Permafrost Pedia is an unofficial, fan-run wiki and reference for Permafrost: it covers the cold system, four biomes, gear, crafting, co-op and system requirements. Unlike most pre-launch wikis, every value is either sourced to an official statement or explicitly marked as unmeasured until the 9 October 2026 Early Access release.
Is there a Permafrost demo? +
A playable demo was announced for Steam Next Fest in September 2026. Check the Steam news hub for the current demo window.
